Health Disparities Seminar

Health Disparities Seminar

On April 2nd, PrePASO hosted a health and diversity seminar to encourage undergraduates to apply to PA school. We have been in coordination with various student groups across campus for a number of months to encourage students who may not have otherwise considered PA school to apply. Special thanks to our speakers, Jackie Farnsworth and Doris Dalton as well as all the PAs who attended and facilitated small group discussions! We were very pleased with the outcomes of this event and hope to make i

Cultural Pearl Corner - Homeless Pts

The Cultural Pearl Corner presentation on our homeless patients was a huge success! We had about 10 panel members from the Road Home, the Fourth Street Clinic, and Valley Mental Health come speak to us. Laverne Cox-Orange is the New Black

Laverne Cox-Orange is the New Black

She spoke for Pride Week. Two things she said really struck me: 1. "Hurt people...hurt people." - In other words the type of people who hurt others are the type of people who are hurting on the inside. 2. During a visit to the doctors office, the physician introduced himself by saying, "Hi, I'm Dave. I identify as a male. I prefer to be referred as a he or him. What about you?" - If you have a pt who is transgender and you don't know how to refer to them, this is a perfect way to ask!
